This is what it looks like to be ALL IN
These days, I’m coaching a group of firefighters from Langford Fire Rescue as part of our Breakthrough Leadership Program and it’s been one of the most energizing experiences I’ve had since joining The Leader’s Edge.
This is my second time running the program with Langford, alongside my dad, Phil, and every time I work with this team, I’m reminded of just how powerful it is when people who carry real responsibility are still willing to grow.
The program includes four group sessions where we explore self-awareness, radical responsibility, and integrity; not as abstract concepts, but as practical tools for navigating pressure, leading others, and showing up more intentionally in all areas of life. Between sessions three and four, each participant gets five weeks of 1-on-1 coaching to generate a breakthrough in an area of their life that matters. Whether that’s in their leadership, their relationships, or how they’re showing up day to day.
I’ve been leading all of those 1-on-1 sessions.
And what stands out, again and again, is their willingness to lean in.
These are people already giving so much.
To their team. Their community. Their profession.
And still, they show up open, curious, and committed to doing the work.
That kind of presence and honesty is rare.
And it’s what makes this work so meaningful.
This isn’t new for Langford. Phil has been coaching the fire chief and other leaders in the department for over 20 years. The trust, consistency, and culture that have been built over time are part of what makes this possible. I’m just lucky to carry the torch forward.
Langford is one of the fastest-growing communities in the region. Which means more calls, more complexity, and more pressure. But rather than resist that change, they’ve chosen to grow with it, to invest in their people and make leadership development part of the job.
And it’s working.
Chief Chris Aubrey said it like this:
“Phil’s coaching and support have allowed me to achieve breakthroughs in my leadership style while also challenging me to dig deeper and grow... He has been an integral part of our organization’s success.”
The truth is, this kind of work isn’t just for firefighters.
If you’re in a leadership position; navigating growth, pressure, or change, you’re facing the same core challenges. People are looking to you. The environment is shifting. And your ability to stay grounded, engaged, and clear has ripple effects far beyond your own performance.
That’s the kind of work I love to support.
Because I’ve come to believe that how we show up (our presence, awareness, and willingness to grow) shapes everything.
And when someone’s ALL IN on that process, things start to shift.
For them, and for everyone around them.
